In the Company of Poets

In the company of poets
I feast on words -
Behind the garnishing of syntax
Raw emotions seethe,
And I sate myself on pain and despair
Made palatable through rhyme.

A bite of angst
A nibble of romance
Devouring dreams
Digesting sorrow
And my starving soul
Finds ample nourishment

In the company of poets
I am drunk on words -
More potent than any wine,
For the words I consume
With famished eyes
Ferment directly in my brain

A drop of potent vintage
Touching my parched lips
And I break out into song!
My spirit's paper wings
Straighten out to glide
Upon currents of lilting melody.
