Recent
projects completed:
Program and commission two thickeners at Nkana Copper. This project involved using a Siemens S7-300 PLC and OP-270 Operator Panel.
Develop PLC and SCADA software for Allen Bradley SLC500 and Panel View to control crusher plant.
Develop PLC and SCADA software for Allen Bradley SLC500 and Panel View to control crusher plant.
This involved the installation and commissioning of a power monitoring system for the main incomer supply to the mine. The monitoring is done by means of DNP3 from Nulec Switches. The data is read using a series of Scadapack 32 PLCs. The data is then send to a central Scadapack 32P PLC. The fire monitoring is done by Scadapack LP PLCs. The data is send to the same central PLC as for the power monitoring. In the event of fire being detected, a SMS is send out to the fire brigade via a Tango GSM Modem.
This was a green field project. I programmed and commissioned the whole underground crusher plant. The plant consists of 4 Modicon Quantum PLCs and an Intouch 8.0 Scada. I also programmed the ventilation fan controls with duty cycles.
We replaced the Crusher Plant’s Toshiba PLC with a Modicon Quantum PLC and Intouch 8.0 Scada.
The Modicon Quantum PLC was replaced with a Moore DCS. I was tasked to oversee the commissioning of the new Moore DCS.
This system required a control system for controlling the density of cementious waste water, as well as the level of the tank, for use in the readymix makeup process. The water is also used for washing readymix trucks. I used a PLC Direct Koyo 205 PLC with a Adroit 4.2 SCADA.
I am currently busy with the Mozal II upgrade. My part in the project is the SCADA (Wonderware Intouch 7.1) for the Rodding Section.
I have been involved with the planning and commissioning of the DCS upgrade at RBMR which involved replacing the outdated Proscon system with a Moore APACS DCS. I configured most of the additions to the system. The ProcessSuite Vision side of the DCS is a Wonderware Scada licensed to be sold with the Moore system. I am working daily on this system.
SO3 Make-up sequence. This involved writing a sequence to control the make-up of three solutions in batches. The volumes are totalised through flow totalisers. There are also a level totaliser for in the event of one of the flow totalisers not working correctly. It is most crucial that the correct amounts of liquids are added. This level totalisers was made complicated by the fact that the same liquid could be added more than once. To achieve this, I had to write a program in structured text that calculated the change in level each time the liquid is added.
Emergency diesel pump starting sequence. This involved writing a program to start the diesel pump if all the other pumps failed. When the process water pressure drops below 350 kPa for longer than 30 seconds, the starter should turn for 2 seconds or until the oil pressure contact is made. If the oil pressure contact isn't made after this 2 seconds, the sequence will wait for 10 seconds before starting again. If the water pressure returns to 380 kPa during this sequence, the sequence should stop. If the starter tried to start for 3 times without success, the sequence should stop and notify the control room operator.
Installation of Spectrum Telemetry system. This system was installed to transmit measurements from outside the plant area to the Moore DCS. The signal is read through Modbus/RS232 into the Moore DCS, which required complex configuration on the Moore DCS to be able to read and transmit the data.
I configured Excel Spreadsheets with Industrial Workbook and macros to generate daily plant reports, and with Visual Basic I wrote a scheduler to send the reports via e-mail to all the required recipients.
These are but a few of many projects.
Objectives:
My objectives are to work in a rewarding and challenging environment.
