This American singer/songwriter who recently (8 February 2004) received a Songwriter's Grammy Award for writing the music of 'Dance with my Father' is often unjustly presented as 'balladeer'.
But who takes the time to listen to a complete album of his, will notice
that he is much more than that... Whether you listen to songs as, for
instance, the eighties-like and catching Satisfied, the rough
Streets of Pain (with the cooperation of Motley Crues Tommy Lee), or
the trendy You Never Take Me Dancing, you can only draw the following
conclusion: he is a rock singer indeed!!! Not convinced yet? Click on the moving piccie above and listen to a selection of songs from his latest album "My Own Best Enemy". For up to date info, gossip, concert pictures and a good chat with fans from all over the globe, please visit his Official Fansite: http://www.richardmarxonline.com.
This spot has been for years one in which I called on everybody who would like to see Richard LIVE - a great show with loads of humor is guaranteed - to join us in our effort to bring him back to Europe for concerts.
However, in the months April-May 2005 our dream has come true: A tour of 6 weeks throughout Germany, where fans from no less than eleven European countries were able to attend. With this tour, our LRRE-campaign has been completed.
Please click on the logo for details about the history and the fantastic closure of this campaign.
Many thanks to Terri who keeps the LRRE-site up to date.
(The logo was designed by Igoy (Indonesia); he made use of
a photo, which was taken by Janet Blackwell (USA).)
Just in case clicking away to yet another website is not what you were up to, here is a tiny summary of LRRE's highlights:
A first edition of the Petition was handed over during a sound-check in
Ravinia, Chicago (IL) on August the 18th 1998. Richard received his copy
personally out of the hands of a Canadian friend - she had flown to the
United States especially to meet him at the concert.
A similar story applies to the second picture, taken 6th of May, 2005 in Hanover (Germany). Flown in from the UK to attend the show and meet Richard, Terri handed him his LRRE-Thank You-plaque.
Besides the seven albums (including Greatest Hits) and a considerable
collection of singles and rare tracks by Richard Marx, I also love
to hear...
Other music
* Europe, Bon Jovi, Chicago, U2, Toto;
* only recently and way too late I discovered:
* Petra and
(both contemporary christian rock);
* the German rock of

* newcomer David Allen
* and classical music (both the original works and the improvisations by the hands of pianist (Jan Vayne).
Studies and Employment
On the 29th of January 1999 this webmaster graduated at the Institute of
Higher European Studies (Dutch acronym: HEBO) in The Hague, The Netherlands.
Since I took the study Politics and Administration, I decided to
write my dissertation on the reasons for Iceland, Norway and Switzerland to
not apply for EU membership. The oral 'defence' of my paper resulted in two
times nine and an eight, whereas the written part was marked nine.
Unfortunately, I failed six hundredths of a point to receive the honour of a cum laude...
During my study I have taken part in an exchange programme: a semester at
the University of Rostock, Germany, where I received eight certificates on
subjects related to Law and Politics. In my last term I've done a work
placement for six months at the Unternehmerverbnde Niedersachsen (Employers'
Association Lower Saxony) in Hanover, Germany, as an EU advisor. Apart from
my mother-tongue Dutch, I speak English, German and a little bit of Italian and Icelandic.
After 1.5 years at the (German) Customer Service Department of a big International, I decided to pack my things and make a second dream (meeting Gert-Jan came first) come true: Iceland. This country has fascinated me for more than a decade and finally, in April 2001, the time was right. Two weeks after arrival of my last-minute flight I had found both a most perfect place to stay and work. Despite the fact that I did not speak much Icelandic yet, I could start in a hotel; first cleaning and taking care of breakfast, but soon part time working at the reception.
Iceland was three years ago already. Shortly after the events of 9/11 in the USA I decided to go home as this had shocked the world and no-one could foresee how things would be influenced by it. Back in The Netherlands I've taken up a commercial job in the area of 'safe storage of hazardous substances' and I am really enjoying learning about the ins and outs of a whole new and rather specialist line of business (DUPA).
Are you in any way impressed by my story and could you picture me as a future employee at your company, please feel free to contact me by email. I am always in for a next challenge.
Poetry
Across various parts of my website (especially the Dutch ones) youll find already several poems dedicated to Gert-Jan Theunisse. Every now and then I feel the need to put on paper what keeps going through my mind. Sometimes in order to finally be able to let things rest, sometimes also to make me help understand myself - express feelings.
I do not write many poems and they certainly do not come easy. Before actually taking up pen and paper, the idea (the urge, if you like) has been lingering for several weeks or even months. Being a perfectionist makes writing a time-consuming effort; every word, every syllable must fit the single-right rhythm that I have in my head. Id like to think of the poem with the title NK95 as my masterpiece up til now. It is to be found in the Dutch section of my Tribute to Theunisse. The translation into English being not as perfect, but very satisfying still. (Do you know how impossible it is to translate a poem without losing it?)
Because I am still doubting on whether or not I want to share these - mostly very personal - poems with the rest of the world, I will for now only put up my latest, which is written in English. Reactions are very welcome.
