How did they live...
without pain medication?
I'm sick, on lunch, at work. And the only reason why that combination still works is because of good old pain meds, apple juice, hot tea, and kleenex. Today's American version of being sick typically means that you're on cold medication or sudafed and feel a bit fuzzy around the edges -if you have a fever, take tylenol - a runny nose? Sudafed. Migraine? Get a prescription or take excedrin. You can even take Tums for a stomach-ache.
What on earth did people do 100 years ago? Just feel sick? Doesn't that realization make you feel like a wimp to take pain medication? It does for me, then again my Mom's advice on kidneys keeps me from taking it much anyway.
I guess a lot more people died from simple illnesses back then and part of what helps is the pain medication.... but modern Americans are so spoiled - we're rich, fat, healthy, and complaining when we have to wait for 30 minutes before the pain medication kicks in to get rid of our headache.
Speaking of which... my head hurts. j/k (well, kind of:-))
