63-year puja of Tarun Dal

COOCH BEHAR, Sept. 29: Tarun Dal of Hazrapara in Cooch Behar town is observing 63rd year of its community Durga Puja.

Tarun Dal first organised the puja in 1941. The puja was not held for three years for some unavoidable reasons. But from then on it is going on in full swing. It bagged the first prize introduced by Cooch Behar Municipality for three years consecutively. This year Tarun Dal erected a 55-feet pavilion following traditional South Indian temple style. The idol of Durga is 14-feet in height. It is placed in traditional ekchaalaa form. Ornamental gates are also an added attraction of Tarun Dal’s puja. The pavilion and gates are decorated with flowers and clay idols. A member of Traun Dal club, Mr Sabyasachi Brahma hatched the plan and he did the supervision to implement it to satisfy the pandal hoppers of the town. The image of Goddess Durga is decorated in classical golden Daaker-saaj. []
