1 killed in road mishap 

COOCH BEHAR, Aug. 31: One person was killed and 20 others were injured in a road mishap near Pundibari in Cooch Behar this morning. Condition of three is serious. 

A NBSTC bus was going to Siliguri from Dinhata this morning. At Jhikarpul area near Pundibari a cyclist suddenly appeared in front of the speeding bus – at about 7 a.m. When it was trying to save the cyclist a private bus knocked it from backside. Following this the NBSTC bus overturned into a roadside ditch. Local people rushed to rescue the passengers of the ill-fated bus. Fire service personnel and police too rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers confined in the bus. 

The cyclist, Prasanta Debnath (38) died on the spot. He was a resident of Jajna-Narayaner Kuthi village. 20 passengers of the bus were wounded. Among them the condition of three was stated as serious. They are now undergoing medical treatment at MJN Hospital in Cooch Behar. 

Soon after the incident agitated local people staged a roadblock for about two hours at the place. Later it was lifted after police intervention. [] 

Tremor in Cooch Behar 

COOCH BEHAR, Aug. 31: Cooch Behar experienced a mild tremor today at 11-05 a.m. It rocked the town for about 16 seconds. No untoward incident reported from anywhere related to the earthquake. []
