Thalassemia detection camps held
COOCH BEHAR, Aug. 27: Serum Thalassemia Prevention Federation (STPF) organised two Thalassemia detection and awareness camps at Dinhata and Cooch Behar today. Another camp was organised at Alipurduar yesterday.
In Dinhata the Thalassemia detection and awareness camp was held in association with Dinhata unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) at Nripendra Narayan Smriti Sadan. Twenty-five blood samples were collected at the camp, according to the executive organiser of the camp Dr Bidyut Kamal Saha. Blood samples will be collected for examination for more two days in Dinhata, he added. He appealed to all to avail the opportunity to get their blood examined. A seminar was also held on the occasion. Sitai MLA Dr Md Fozle Haque, Dinhata MLA Mr Ashok Mandal, Dinhata Municipality chairman Mr Jagadish Ghosh, Dr Bidyut Kamal Saha, Dr Biplab Chatterjee, secretary of STPF Mr Sanjib Acharya and others spoke about the need to fight against the deadly genetic disease.
In Cooch Behar the Thalassemia detection and awareness camp was held in association with Maharaja Shri Jitendra Narayan Club at the club premises. Telecom District Manager, Cooch Behar Mr MK Seth inaugurated the camp. The convener of the Thalassemia Camp in Cooch Behar Dr Binayak Roy said that blood samples were taken from 15 persons for examination. Secretary of NAS Group Mr Arup Guha, TDM Mr MK Seth, Dr Abhijit Roy, Dr Binayak Roy and others spoke at the seminar on Thalassemia and the need blood examination. []
