4 ministers visit drought affected Cooch Behar
COOCH BEHAR, Aug. 22: Only yesterday, Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad sabhadhipati Mr Jnanendra Chandra Chanda declared Cooch Behar as a drought affected district. Today a team of four ministers visited some drought hit areas in Dinhata sub-division. In the team there were state agriculture minister Mr Naren Dey, food and supply minister Mr Paresh Adhikary, relief minister Mr Murtaza Hossain and co-operation minister Mr Rabindra Nath Ghosh.
During the ministers’ visit to Kisamat Dashgram village in Dinhata local people organised a gathering at the ground of a local school this afternoon. The ministers announced there that the government will distribute minikits of seeds of mustard and maize to the drought affected farmers. Supplementary fertiliser will also be distributed among them.
It was learnt that the visiting ministers will submit a report on the drought situation in Cooch Behar district to the cabinet on 24 August and an action plan will be adopted there to meet the situation. []
