Barman’s bail prayer accepted
COOCH BEHAR, Aug. 3: The general secretary of The Greater Cooch Behar People’s Association (GCPA) Mr Bangshi Badan Barman was produced in Tufanganj Court in connection with a case today. The ACJM granted his bail petition according to his pleader Mr Shibendra Nath Roy.
Though the bail prayer of the GCPA leader were granted in Tufanganj Court today, Mr Barman will have to stay in Cooch Behar District Correctional Home because a few other cases are still pending against him in other courts. []
Jute Park plan discussed
COOCH BEHAR, Aug. 3: State forest minister Mr Ananta Roy came forward with an initiative to set up a Jute Park in Cooch Behar. He discussed the ambitious plan with the managing director of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) Mr Debashis Som and the general secretary of Cooch Behar District Merchants Chamber of Commerce (CDMCC) Mr Rajendra Kumar Baid at his chamber in Writers’ Buildings recently.
In the meeting it was pointed out that there are two jute mills in Cooch Behar at Chakchaka Industrial Growth Centre. One of the two, Kamakshi Jute Industries Limited is a big unit that is going to be launched shortly. This mill has plans to expand its operation after launching of the first unit. The minister asked the MD of WBIDC to co-operate with the mill’s management for smooth functioning of the unit. It may be mentioned here that the KJIL has a plan to employ about 2000 persons in the first phase and 3000 persons in the second phase.
General secretary of CDMCC Mr Baid said at Cooch Behar today that all aspects of setting up a Jute Park at Cooch Behar were discussed thoroughly at the meeting. The jute growers of Cooch Behar district and adjoining areas will be benefited from the plan, he opined. For setting up the Jute Park the Centre may provide financial assistance because there is a provision for the facility, Mr Baid added. []
Blood donation
COOCH BEHAR, Aug. 3: Cooch Behar district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party will organise a blood donation camp on Saturday to observe the 105th birth anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. District BJP president Mr Hemchandra Barman will inaugurate the camp. The blood donation camp will be organised in association with MJN Hospital Blood Bank. []
Project Disha of Lions Club
COOCH BEHAR, Aug. 3: A permanent project of Lions Club of Cooch Behar Greater named Project Disha was launched in Cooch Behar recently. District governor Mr Nirmal Gidra and vice-district governor Mr Biswadeep Agarwal inaugurated the project.
President of Lions Club of Cooch Behar Greater Mrs Dipanwita Roy said that poor students who passed Class VIII would be eligible to learn Basic Course in Computer free of cost under the project. The students should be holders of BPL cards. The project will be implemented in association with a local computer education centre named Smart Academy. The CEO of Smart Academy Mr Saikat Sen said that they would co-operate with the LCCG to run the project successfully.
State forest minister Mr Ananta Roy and Cooch behar Zilla Parishad sabhadhipati Mr Jnanendra Chandra Chanda were present among the distinguished guests on the occasion of inauguration of Project Disha. []
