Plantation festival at Sunity Academy
COOCH BEHAR, Aug. 2: Briksharopan Utsav (tree plantation festival) was observed at Sunity Academy in Cooch Behar today. State forests minister Mr Ananta Roy, Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad sabhadhipati Mr Jnanendra Chandra Chanda, Cooch Behar (North) MLA Mr Dipak Sarkar, Telecom District Manager Mr Mahesh Kumar Seth and other distinguished guests planted saplings in the school premises on the occasion.
A spectacular cultural programme was also organised on the occasion. Mr Ananta Roy, Mr Jnanendra Chandra Chanda, Mr Dipak Sarkar and Mr Mahesh Kumar Seth appreciated the teachers and students of Sunity Academy for organising the Briksharopan Utsav. They emphasised on plantation of more trees to make the environment greener and clean. They even suggested the girls to demand saplings as gifts from their parents for plantation.
Earlier, an extempore competition was held on “Tree plantation and environmental protection” at Sunity Academy in association with BSNL yesterday. On behalf of the BSNL the minister, the sabhadhipati and the MLA handed over prizes to the successful students of the school today. The headmistress of Sunity Academy Mrs Bhupali Roy too got a trophy from the BSNL for her praiseworthy initiative.
Dance recital by the girl students of the school on green environment added a special dimension to the programme. []

Balarampur BTS inaugurated
COOCH BEHAR, August 2: Telecom District Manager, Cooch Behar, Mr MK Seth inaugurated a new mobile telephone exchange at Balarampur today. During his speech Mr Seth reiterated his promise to make Cooch Behar a model telecom district. He appreciated the teamwork attitude of the officials for providing better telecom service in Cooch Behar district. Divisional engineer (T&M) Mr PK Chaudhury, SDO (Gr) Mr S Ghosh and other distinguished persons attended the programme.
BSNL sources said at Cooch Behar that the new Balarampur mobile exchange would give sufficient coverage to nearby villages like Chekadora, Choukhusi, Sarpasingra, Haranpur, Sholadanga and Jhapaipar. 2500 SIMs has been reserved for Balarampur BTS and nearby areas, BSNL sources added. []
