Co-ordination committee
COOCH BEHAR, July 27: The Cooch Behar district unit of State Co-ordination Committee came down heavily on Cooch Behar district administration. They alleged that there are irregularities inside the administration and that is affecting the work. Earning of revenue is also getting lowered.
Demanding remedial measures the members of State Co-ordination Committee submitted a memorandum including eleven-point charter of demands to the additional district magistrate and district land and land reforms officer of Cooch Behar yesterday.
In the memorandum the Co-ordination Committee demanded administrative steps to increase revenue earning. []
Barman’s bail prayers accepted
COOCH BEHAR, July 27: The general secretary of The Greater Cooch Behar Cooch Behar People’s Association (GCPA) Mr Bangshi Badan Barman was produced in Dinhata court in connection with a case today. The judge granted his bail petition against Rs 2,000 and two sureties, according to his pleader Mr Shibendra Nath Roy. In another case in Mathabhanga court the concerned judge granted his bail prayer against Rs 2,000 and two sureties, Mr Roy said.
Earlier, Mr Barman was produced in the court of district and sessions judge in Cooch Behar on Monday. The judge had rejected his bail plea and ordered next hearing to be held on 19 August.
Though the bail prayers of the GCPA leader were granted in Dinhata and Mathabhanga courts today, Mr Barman will have to stay in Cooch Behar District Correctional Home because a few cases are still pending against him in Tufanganj and District courts. []
5-yr RI for rapist
COOCH BEHAR, July 27: The judge of Fast Track Court, Cooch Behar, Mr Siddhartha Chattopadhyay today sentenced five years rigorous imprisonment to a seventy-year-old man for raping a dumb girl.
The incident took place about two years ago. A seventy-year-old man, Jiban Mandal had raped a dumb girl at Baro Haldibari village under Haldibari police station in Cooch Behar district. Twelve witnesses were examined at the court in connection with the case. At last, hearing all sides the judge ordered five years rigorous imprisonment to the man for the crime he committed. He will have to suffer an additional six months imprisonment if he fails to submit Rs 2,000 as the fine that was imposed by the court. []
