Industrialisation of Cooch Behar

Not long ago, Cooch Behar was known as a “No-industry District” in West Bengal. But the scenario is changing towards good. Chakchaka Industrial Growth Centre at Chakchaka near Cooch Behar town came up to erase out the bad name of Cooch Behar. A number of industrial units are running here and some others are under construction. The industrialisation is also helping to eradicate the unemployment situation to some extent. Among all the units the jute mill that is presently under construction will be the largest. It may engage 2,000 persons at the first phase and 3,000 in the second phase. State industries minister Mr Nirupam Sen visited the progress of work of the proposed jute mill a few days ago. He expressed his satisfaction by observing the prospect of the jute mill and the jute growers of the region.
