Govt employees set up an example
COOCH BEHAR, July 19: Pashchimbanga Group-D Sarkari Karmachari Samity (PGDSKS) took up the responsibility of a meritorious poor student to continue his higher studies. They will extend financial assistance at the rate of Rs 1,500 per month to the student named Tilak Barman. In a programme organised a few days ago (Monday) the first instalment of the assured assistance was handed over to Tilak.
Tilak Barman is a meritorious student of Talapaka village of Basantirhat in Dinhata sub-division. His father Mr Kanai Barman is a blind singer. He had to take up begging to maintain the family and to help his son to continue his studies. Tilak scored brilliantly in the Higher Secondary examination. He also had secured star marks in the Madhyamik examination. As its social responsibility the PGDSKS had declared that they would bear the cost of two poor meritorious student of the state and Tilak was selected as one of the two.
In the programme held at Basantirhat, the district PGDSKS secretary Mr Shekhar Pal said that as a part of their social responsibility they decided to assist Tilak. He mentioned that they donated about 1,300 bottles of blood collected through various blood donation camps organised in Cooch Behar district. General secretary of PGDSKS central committee, Mr Jaydeb Bakshi said that their organisation is an organisation of the lowest level employees of the administration. “We not only fight for our own interests but also fight for others. Shouldering of social responsibility is also a part of our struggle”, he said. Secretary of State Co-ordination Committee’s Cooch Behar district committee, Mr Pulak Kanti Biswas, Mr Anupam Dutta of All Bengal Teachers’ Association, Burirhat-II Gram Panchayat pradhan Mr Sunil Sarkar and Mr Benubadal Chakraborty were also spoke on the occasion. Father of Tilak, Mr Kanai Barman too sang songs at the programme.
