Barman’s bail plea rejected at Dinhata Court
COOCH BEHAR, July 18: General secretary of The Greater Cooch Behar Peoples’ Association (GCPA), Mr Bangshi Badan Barman was remanded in judicial custody again till 27 July. A large crowd gathered at Dinhata Court premises today to see the GCPA chief. Police took strong security measures at the court premises to maintain peace.
Mr Barman’s lawyer, Mr Shibendra Nath Roy said that Mr Barman was produced in the court of acting ACJM of Dinhata in connection with a case today. The case number is GR/24/2006 of 11-04-2006. The case was lodged against him under Section 505/2 and 127-A IPC related with Representation of Peoples Act 1951 and Prevention of National Honours Act 1971.
In the court of acting-ACJM Mr Barman’s lawyer appealed to release his client on bail but the government pleader of the case opposed the plea. Hearing all sides the judge rejected the bail petition and sent Mr Barman in judicial custody till 27 July, Mr Roy said. The GCPA chief was sent back from Dinhata to Cooch Behar District Correctional Home where he is staying since his surrender to the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Cooch Behar.
