New Shiva temple at Cooch Behar

COOCH BEHAR, July 16: An Ananta Shivaligam will be established at the temple complex of Kumar Gajendra Narayan Estate (KGNE) on Monday. Cooch Behar District and Sessions Judge Mr Nripendra Nath Ghosh will remain present on the occasion of the coronation of the Shivalingam that was brought from Benaras, according to the administrator of the KGNE Mr Ananda Jyoti Majumder.

The KGNE was established in 1930-31 following the will of Kumar Gajendra Narayan of Cooch Behar royal family. Late Lalit Bakshi was the first administrator of the estate. He had erected a temple on the estate situated on the South side of Raasmela Ground. The fifth administrator Mr Majumder took charge in July of last year.

Mr Majumder said a new Shiva temple was erected on the five-bigha complex and the Shivalingam was brought from Benaras. Meanwhile a beautiful garden came up there and boundary wall also constructed. They are working hard with a target to make the place a spot of tourist attraction, Mr Majumder added.

Amra Bangali plans

COOCH BEHAR, July 16: Amra Bangali termed the industrialisation policy of the Left Front as a capitalist initiative that will serve the interest of capitalists only. A delegation of Amra Bangali submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate of Cooch Behar on Friday.

The secretary of Cooch Behar district committee of Amra Bangali Mr Haribala Roy alleged that the industrialisation policy would bring no good to the people. It will not be able to improve the socio-economic condition of the region. It will only help to create an outgoing flow of money that is nothing but a transformation of colonisation, Mr Roy said.

Mr Roy criticised the CPI-M for snatching out agricultural land from the peasants in the name of industrialisation. In the memorandum the Amra Bangali mentioned a three-point charter of demands. They demanded that no one should get license for setting up any unit if they want to send the dividends outside of West Bengal, alternative arrangement should be extended to the peasants before acquisition of land from them and the government should make adequate infrastructure for setting up ago-based industrial units of farmers’ co-operative societies. Mr Roy said that they are getting ready to start a massive movement against the industrial policy of the Left Front. []
