MLA wants state as member of Brahmaputra Board
COOCH BEHAR, July 12: Alipurduar MLA Mr Nirmal Das is demanding for the last few years to convince the state government about the importance of getting membership in the Brahmaputra Board to get adequate funds to combat the floods and erosion of North Bengal. Though the state got a membership as an invitee following much deliberation it is not so important as a full-fledged membership. At last, he raised the demand in the state Assembly today to draw the attention of the state government.
Talking over telephone from Kolkata, Mr Das said that it is important to get the full-fledged membership in the Brahmaputra Board. As a full-fledged member-state West Bengal may be able to get all the benefits and funds from the Brahmaputra Board to combat the yearly floods and erosion of North Bengal to save the people of the region, he argued. He appealed the state government to take an initiative to talk with the Central government over the issue.
Mr Das hoped that the state government would do the needful to get the full-fledged membership of Brahmatra Board to save the people of flood and erosion prone areas of North Bengal. []
