Nirupam Sen visited jute mill
COOCH BEHAR, July 9: State industries minister Mr Nirupam Sen inspected the progress of work of the proposed mega jute mill that is coming up at Chakchaka Industrial Growth Centre in Cooch Behar. Yesterday afternoon he visited the site and inquired about the development. Convenor of Cooch Behar District Left front Mr Chandi Pal, general secretary of Cooch Behar District Merchants Chamber of Commerce Mr Rajendra Kumar Baid and Cooch Behar ADM Mr SN Pal accompanied him.
The minister said that work is going on to set up a large sized jute mill at Chakchaka. Another two jute units already came up here. Other entrepreneurs will be interested if they observe these units are running smoothly. He inquired whether there are any problems here. He assured that the entrepreneurs would get all co-operation and assistance to set up new units. The minister also assured that once reported he will do the needful to erase out all problems in setting up units.
It may be mentioned here that a large sized jute mill named Kamakshi Jute Industries Limited (KJIL) is coming up at Chakchaka Industrial Growth Centre in Cooch Behar. Export oriented jute yarn for manufacturing of carpets will be produced here. The Rs 30-crore project will be the biggest in entire North Bengal. Mr Jatan Kumar Baid is the entrepreneur of the jute mill and he is also the managing director of KJIL.
CDMCC general secretary Mr Rajendra Kumar Baid requested the minister to take an initiative to declare North Bengal as a Tax Free Zone for the sake of industrialisation. He argued that once North Bengal turns into a special economic zone the industrial scenario and the socio-economic condition will be changed. The minister assured him that he would take up the issue with the Central government.
The industries minister also visited the Cooch Behar Airport and inquired about the ongoing development process to make it operational again. He also talked with officials of Airport Authority of India over the modernisation efforts of the airport.
