Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Blog
Questions, answers, and comments from fellow NNPs.
Entry for August 27, 2006

HI! Fellow Neonatal Nurse Practitioners!!!!

I have created this blog in hope to contact NNP's all over the US who have questions and hopefully some answers.

The Advanced Practice Nurses Forum in Washington D.C. brought up the question of who would replace the retiring and just the discouraged NPs leaving the field.

I only have three years under my belt and am looking for another career.

My question to all NNP's is about scheduling and hours of work per week.

Are you salary/hourly?

Do you take call?

Is it in-house or at home?

Are you payed while on-call or only the hours you work?

What shifts do you work?

What are the total hours per week worked?

What is your shift preference 3/2, 12hours, 24hours, or other?

I need some data to present to my employer to help develop a fare schedule for NPs and doctors.

Thanks,

CStaples

considered salaried but get paid as if I'm per hour if I cover extra shifts; cover 24 hr shifts inhouse and have a sleep room where I'm allowed to sleep at night if there are no issues that need my attention; I work 84 hours in a two week payperiod as my base but can work extra for extra pay;

Considered salaried but get paid per hour for any extra hours(straight time). Work 12 hour shifts, 13 shifts per month (considered a .9 FTE). Do not take call.
