Quiz Television Bubble may be bursting!
Quiz Telly is a fansite about the quiz television channels that seem to be infecting modern British television. But two recent news stories being reported on the site, could indicate that things may not be too good in the world of quiz television.
First, Optimistic Entertainment, the company behind the QuizNation channel, has warned creditors that it might not be able to repay its debts. And secondly, Big Game TV is being investigated for allegations of fraud which aired on the BBC Radio 4 programme, You and Yours. Big Game TV is denying these allegations. Personally, I would like nothing better than to see the end of these quiz channels, as I find some things about these channels to be very odd, and not the way I'm used to having these kinds of phone in competitions run. I don't like the fact that you can call up, not even leave your details, and still get charged a premium rate for the privilege. On radio, there used to be a style of competition where by to qualify to make it on air, it would be announced that you would have to be a certain number of caller, for instance caller number 12. These were usually charged at local rates , and didn't cost any more than a few pence. You always got through, and you would be told something like, "I'm sorry, you're caller number 5, you have not been successful. Thank you for calling." These channels are just raking in cash from people who have no idea sometimes that they haven't made it through. Surely, it would be better and fairer to accept entries from all callers. 2006-05-29 20:59:46 GMT
