So, an era in American Television news is finally ended.  Dan Rather, former anchor of the CBS Evening News, is retiring more than a year after leaving the anchor desk.

In the 1980s, the 1990s and the early part of the 2000s, the trifecta of Dan Rather at CBS, Peter Jennings at ABC, and Tom Brokaw at NBC, were the newscasters of record for the US audience.

In many ways, this is the last time that the American Network newscasts will be so dominant.

Yet, Fox is considering adding a network newscast to their schedule.

Whilst the net is fast becoming people's main source of news, how long will broadcast news remian?

Only time will tell.
