The professionals have arrived! Work has started in earnest to bring the house back to a habitable condition. We have emerged blinking from a long rural winter in our 'temporary' accommodation and there is a glimmer of hope that we might be in our house by the end of the summer.

The house is to be renovated as it is, rather than adding an extension. We decided not to go ahead with the plans for the extension once we had received a couple of quotes back (which took flipping ages) and we realised that it was going to be prohibitively expensive.

Instead there will be a more modest plan carried out which involves creating a new kitchen by knocking through from the existing kitchen into the lean-to bathroom. It will be small, but if done well it should be really efficient. I will try to fill in the details over the coming weeks.

We're now keeping our fingers crossed that the hulk of a French cooker we bought on eBay will fit!
