Hmmm, 4 months since the last entry I see. Two of those months were spent studying, so work ground to a halt during that time, while during the past two months there has been a bit more progress, but nothing really significant. Until yesterday that is. We finally had the news that both neighbours have assented to our plans, and that, coupled with the fact that we don't need planning permission means that we can start looking for a builder. So prepare for another six month wait until the good ones are free!
Meanwhile there is still a lot of work that can be done, as the picture shows. This is one of the bedroom walls with its Victorian paint visible. Do you remember the multiple floor coverings we removed earlier in the year? Well, the same applies to the walls. All of them. And the ceilings. In fact the only ceilings that didn't need to be stripped were the ones in the bedrooms, which if you also recall don't actually exist anymore!
The cast iron fireplaces have been removed and have gone off to be dipped before being replaced. The doors will be following soon, now that all the hardboard and other crap has been removed. They're quite nice underneath, 4 panelled pine. Should look nice stripped.
All this work means the risk of various nasties being inhaled, ingested and splashed on skin. Old lead paint and Nitromors, a winning combination. And some of the old wallpaper is so brittle it creates a lot of dust. Renovation should come with a health warning, perhaps there should be health warnings written on estate agent details, like they do on fag packets.
