Completion day! Finally! It's been a little over six months since we made our offer, and we're about to find out if there is any truth in the saying 'good things come to those who wait'.
Hopefully you'll be able to see too as we share our ups and downs over the next six months (ish).
Today we went in with a draughtsman who, while politely refusing to help carry Bec over the threshold, nonetheless agreed to help us 'remodel' the rear extension. Goodness knows why the Victorians placed so little value in kitchens and bathrooms, but the afterthought bodged onto the back of the house falls woefully short of our expectations.
We'll need to introduce ourselves to the neighbours soon, and gently drop the words 'party wall' into the conversation. Mind you, judging by the hip-hop blasting out from next door, the word party if not wall is likely to be met with enthusiasm.
We had a look behind the nasty electric fire to see if anything original had survived the '50s sanitising. Looks like a patent fireplace at least. Got the windows open and let in some much needed fresh air, and proceeded to rip up the multiple layers of carpet and lino. There were some old '50s newspapers underneath, which had lots of ads for anything made of plastic, as well as news stories heralding the nuclear age.
A temporary lull will now follow while Charlie sits his exams, but the boys will be round next weekend with beer and a sledge-hammer, followed by the girls in a couple of weekends' time with champagne and a sledge-hammer.
