Lain April 13, 2007
Man, I don't care much for yahoo's blogs. The interface sucks and I don't like logging in every 4 months. If any reader learns of an easier free website host, let me know...
Anyway I've been watching Lain. That means I've had to spend a great amound of time scrolling down websites, such as bobplex's lain site in an attempt to digest the series. I've come to the conclusion that the series makes no sense and was not intended to make sense. The 4 creators of the series had no idea what they were writing about, but concluded that if they made a strange series as incomprehensible as possible, people would waste time anaylzing the series and finding themes, symbols and depth that didn't really exist. Then the series would become a popular cult hit. When watching shows like anime I pay attention to the openings and closings for (usually misdirecting) hints on the series's theme. The opening to Lain is interesting even if the English lyrics are bland, unoriginal and make little sense to native English speakers. But the vocals sound cool, and the song is great if you artifically speed it up to about 2-3 times the normal speed. Now about the closing: the music sucks and I always skip it. As for visuals, its cool how the girl, Lain, sleeps on the wires in the same position as Lucy from Elfen Lied. Maybe Elfen Lied borrowed from Lain. Thats all folks. 2007-04-13 20:08:50 GMT
