Part 1
�So what happened?� Liz Parker asked her best friend Maria DeLuca, as she changed out of her work clothes.
�With Michael?�
�Yeah.�
�Nothing. My mom and I totally bailed him out of jail, and he didn�t even thank us. He just left, as usual. I should be furious with him. But after finding out about Michael and hank�� she let that hang in the air. �Listen, I have to get home. I�m still grounded because of that whole �Michael in my bed� thing. I�ll see you later.�
Liz laughed. �Bye.�
Maria walked home, thinking about all that had happened in the past week. She had not seen Michael at all. As usual, he had not shown up for school, or been to the Crashdown. She had heard from Liz that Max thought Michael might leave, but then Isabel told her that Michael had left, but he had come back and had become an adult some how. Maybe she would see him tomorrow.
She opened the door to her house, stepped inside, and looked around. Something did not seem right. It was too quiet. Then a thought occurred to her. This was just how her house sounded when she found her mom and the sheriff downstairs. She shivered at the thought. She still could not shake that ekk feeling it gave her. She prayed to god he was not here, and went into the kitchen, looking around for clues. The kitchen was spotless, but she heard a guy�s voice coming from the downstairs, and it did NOT sound like Jim�s.
She knocked on the door and when noone answered, she opened the door.
Part 2
Maria walked into find some stranger on top of her mom on the couch. �Mom!� Maria said, racing downstairs. She started hitting the guy on the head. �Get off my mom you Jerk! I will kill you!�
�Woah! Woah! Calm down. I�m not trying to hurt your mom!� he yelled, trying to wield off Maria�s blows. He got off her mom and stood up. Amy grinned sheepishly at Maria. She stood up and put an arm around the stranger�s waist.
�Honey, this is an old friend of mine. Maria this is James, James this is Maria. Um, he�ll be staying here with us for a few days while he�s in town.�
�Mom? What happened to Jim?�
�Jim? Well, Jim and I have been having some problems lately. We broke it off a while ago. Didn�t I tell you that?� Her voice was becoming shrilly, like she was on the verge f having a break down. She looked at Maria, her eyes begging her to drop the subject of Jim.
Maria took the hint. �No, I guess you forgot to mention that part.�
Jim grabbed Maria�s hand and shook it. �Well, it�s nice to finally meet you. Amy talks about you all the time.�
�Really? She�s never mentioned you before.�
James gave a fake laugh. �Well Maria, we�re ya heading?�
�Up to my room. You know, hard day at work.�
�Well, we�re getting ready to go to the movies. Why don�t you come along? It�ll be fun!� James Said.
�Uh, uh, actually, I forgot. I�m supposed to go over to Michael�s to work on that, that thing, that�s due. So, um, I�m just going to go call him now, to see if he�s ready.�
�Michael? Who�s Michael?� James asked.
Amy looked at Maria, and this time it was Maria�s eyes begging her mom not to say anything bad. �Oh, Michael is a friend of Maria�s. He helped me out at my wrestling booth a couple days ago. Nice boy.�
�Do you think she should be going over to some strange boy�s house? At this hour of the night?� He asked Amy.
�Well,� Amy started.
�He�s not some strange boy!� Maria cut in. �He�s my friend. And I don�t really appreciate you telling me what�s good for me!� she snapped.
James held his hands up as if to say �you win�. �Sorry. I meant no offense to this �boy�� he said.
�Michael!�
�Right, Michael.�
Maria picked up the phone and looked at them, waiting for them to leave. They just stared at her. She sighed and started dialing Michael�s phone number. She hung up when she remembered the whole hank situation. She took a chance and dialed Max�s number. Isabel answered.
�Hello?� she answered cheerfully.
�Hey Isabel.�
�Maria? What�s up? Is something wrong?�
�No. No, I was just wondering if Michael was there.�
�Yeah, he�s in Max�s room. Hold on. Michael!� she yelled. �He�s coming. But Maria, I have to ask. When he spent the night over at your house, what did you two do?�
Maria did not get a chance to answer. She heard a muffling as the phone was taken away from Isabel. Michael picked it up.
�Hey,� he said.
�Oh, hey Michael!� she said a little bit louder so that her mom and James could hear her. �So should I come over now to start the project?�
�Huh?�
�Oh, Okay. I�ll meet you at the crashdown in an hour. We can start it there. Bye.� Maria hung up.
