Title: If They Only Knew
Author: Jenn
The Disclaimer & Such: Sadly *sniffle* I do not own Roswell or any of its characters. Max, Liz & co. belong to Melinda Metz & the United Paramount Network (You lucky people). All other characters in the story are mine. But if I had my way I would definitely own Jason Behr ;)~~ ok that's enuff I'm getting carried away. On with the show.
Rating: R ~ For situations and language
Category: Would you expect anything else? M/L mostly but the gang's all there. Hey I’m a total Dreamgirl!!
Summary: For three and a half years, Elizabeth Parker has kept a dark secret from her friends. The real question is if her friends knew her secret would they all still love her?
Author’s Note:This is a Tess-free Alterna-Roswell. Let’s pretend that they rescued Max and things went back to what they consider to be normal. Nasedo did replace Pierce but little Miss Homewrecker Harding died in a car accident a few years back so technically their destinies don’t exist anymore. This story takes place towards the end of their junior year (April-May).
Feedback: Greatly appreciated.......I know I still haven’t finished “My Ain’t That Just An Interesting Twist of Fate” yet but I got the inspiration for this one and felt compelled to write it. I hope you like it.

Now on to your regularly scheduled fanfic.................

Chapter 8 (Hey Man, It’s The Thought That Counts....)

The DeLuca Household: Maria’s Room

Maria was sitting on her bed listening to the radio doing some homework that Mr. Lisotto had given all his classes to do over the weekend. But she couldn’t quite concentrate on the homework that easily. So with as frustrated as she was, she slammed her textbook shut to relieve some tension.

“Damn Math.” She grumbled. “Doesn’t Mr. L know that I currently have more pressing issues to deal with other than some stupid pre-cal proofs!?!”

So she decided that she needed to find something to do to get her mind off of everything. “Hmmmm....what to do? What to do?” She said as she impatiently tapped her fingers on the cover of her math book. Suddenly the look on her face said that she had an epiphany. “I know.” She declared happily. “I’ll go make some cookies.” She shook her head in satisfaction. “Yeah cookies will do it for me. They always do.” She jumped off her bed and made a mad dash for the kitchen.

Within minutes, she was tearing her entire kitchen apart looking for all the key ingredients that were vital to her mother’s sacred recipe.

Ten minutes later, Maria ventured a glance at the clock.

“Dear god.” She screeched to no one in particular. (Especially considering Amy wasn’t home.) “I’ve been immersed in this madness for forty freakin minutes already.” She shook her head while laughing hysterically.

Her musings were rudely interupted by a loud knocking come from the immediate vicinity of her room.

*BAM*BAM*BAM*

“All right. All right.” She yelled frantically. “Hold on. I’ll be right there.” She was currently licking the remaining cookie dough off of the ‘Aliens Can Cook Too!’ spatula. She figured that the knocking was Micheal which meant. “Spaceboy can wait.” But yet, the annoying pounding persisted.

*BAM*BAM*BAM*

“All right already!” She yelled.

*BAM*BAM*BAM* “Spaceboy, I swear on everything holy that if you do not stop that you’ll get a one way ticket back to Czechoslovakia compliments of Hurricane DeLuca.” She yelled as she made her way to her bedroom.

*BAM*BAM*BAM*

Micheal! You’re really trying my....” She stopped yelling when she finally got to her room. One look out the window and realized that it was not Micheal at her window.

It was none other than her ‘brother’ Alex Whitman.

She quickly scurried over to the window to let him in.

Alex climbed in and popped a squat on her windowsill.

“Sorry.” He apologized sheepishly. “I went to the Crashdown to pay my favorite waitress a visit. And low and behold Mr. P. tells me that you had called in sick.”

Maria was quick to cover her tracks. *Cough* “Yeah.” *Cough* “I have a soar throat.” ‘Yeah *Cough* you *Cough* sound *Cough* really believable Maria.’

Alex gave her a disappointing look. “DeLuca I pose one question for you. How long have we been friends.”

She gave him a puzzling look. “Since we were four. Why do you ask?”

“Yeah and that means that we’ve been friends for thirteen years. So don’t you think that I would know by now when you’re lying through your pretty little teeth.” He said as he gave her a little noogie.

He walked over to where she was standing and put his arm around her shoulders. She looked up at him not seeing the disappointed look she expected. She gave him a weak smile. “Yeah. I’m sorry Alex. I should know better.”

“So ‘Ria you wanna tell me what it really is that had you playing hooky?” ‘Say it with me: Liz.’

‘Yes I do but not right now.’
“No.”

“Maria.” ‘Yes, yes I do believe you do.’

‘Again I reiterate. I really don’t want to discuss this with you Alex.’
“No.”

“Maria Rose DeLuca.” ‘C’mon give a guy a break here.’

“Yes Alexander Charles Whitman?”

“Spit. It. Out. Now.”

“Or what?”

“Alex the tickle monster will have to show himself.”

She let out one of those I-Hate-You-For-This sighs.

“Fine.”

“So then what’s preventing you from talking now?”

“Well. I. Uh. I’m just not sure we took the right approach with Liz.”

The look on his face told her that he was contemplating what she had just said. But in reality he was doing his best to feign innocence.

Maria still didn’t know what Liz had been through. And Alex really didn’t want to be the one to have to tell her. He couldn’t bring himself to tell her all the gory details.

So he resided to playing dumb because it was the only choice he had right now.

“Don’t you think so Alex?”

“Yeah we were a bit harsh.”

“A bit harsh? A tiger biting a kitten’s head off is a bit harsh. The casualties of the Civil War were a bit harsh. The aftermath of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima was a bit harsh. But we? Well I’ll tell ya what we were. We were downright shitty to her.” She took a breath and finishing her little ‘Maria-rant’.

Alex raised an eyebrow at her oh so colorful comparisons that she had always been known for. His mind drifted back to the third grade when Eleina Montoya threw up on Mr. Neilsen. It was then that Maria coined the phrase ‘Technicolor yawning’. ‘Enough Alex. Back to the situation at hand here.’

“I guessed it could be construed as shitty.”

“Alex, let’s be real. We were total assholes to her. We deserted Liz without so much as a ‘Hey Liz How ya doing? By the way do you have a kid.’”

“Yeah we did. Didn’t we?”

“And no matter what I do, I can’t seem to get her outta my mind.”

‘Bingo she just gave me the perfect excuse to discuss our little weekend excursion.’ “They maybe you might just appreciate my next suggestion all that more.”

“You’d like to think so.”

“Hey, hey before you make anymore of your little remarks, just listen to what I propose.”

“Fine. Spill it.”

“Well I propose that you and me could take a weekend road trip.”

“Are you crazy!?! Mom would never ever go for that.”

“Amy already gave my idea the big thumbs up.” He said with a goofy grin on his face.

“You’re kidding!?!”

“I kid you not. So what do ya say ‘Ria? We disappear for two days. Be normal teenagers. Then we come home and on Monday we talk to Liz.”

She put her arm around him. “Alex as always, you are a freggin genius.”

“Get packing. Praise later.”

“You got it. Geekboy.”

“I am not a geek in any way shape or form.”

“You are too. Nerd.” She told him as she pushed him out of her room and proceeded to shut the door. “Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve gotta change.”

“You look gorgeous as usual. And I am not a geek. Cyprus girl.”

“I will have you know that Cyprus Oil happens to be my savior especially when it comes to dealing with a certain spiky haired Czechoslovakian Rebel Without a Clue.”

“Point taken.”

“Thank you very much. I Maria ‘The Goddess Of Everything’ DeLuca am right as usual. Now forgive me but I have some packing to do.”

“’Ria, you have exactly..” He casually checked his watch knowing she was going to go ballistic with his next statement. “ ten minutes to pack before we depart.”

Next thing he knew she was racing around the house like a mad women. Packing everything in sight. “Maria, don’t panic.”

“Alex ten minutes? How can you tell me I have ten minutes to pack and then expect me to not panic.”

“Just hurry up. Okay? I’ll be waiting in the car.”

“I’ll do my best.”

“K.” He said as he made his way out the door. ‘This is probably not exactly what Isabel and Micheal had in mind when they told me to make sure Maria would go along with our little plan. But hey man it’s the thought that counts right?’
