"A dance contest!" Maria squealed, walking out of Mackenzie's office
ahead of Max. "We could go on tour around the world!"
Max was smiling, her excitement was contagious. "It would be pretty
cool," he said.
"Pretty cool?!" Maria yelled, ignoring the stares as they walked down the
hall. "It would be awesome, Max!"
"What would be awesome?" Michael asked, walking up to them with his usual
scowl. But nothing, not even a reminder of love lost, could bring Maria down
right now. She ignored him completely.
"We're good, Max!" She clapped. "Good-bye Roswell, New Mexico!" She
hollered.
"What's wrong with her?" Michael asked Max.
"We haven't won yet, Maria," Max reminded her. But he was grinning.
"Won what yet?" Michael repeated.
"But we will!" Maria said.
"What the hell is going on?!" Michael yelled.
