Buy My Happiness! Please!
I'm 20-something, just graduated from a large state university, and I've got debts, debts, DEBTS...
U.S. Department of
Education loans: $13,889 |
Total debt as of February 2007:
$37,339
...and gaining by the day due to interest charges and my continued broke-ness
For the past several years I've been
attending college, living off of loans and grants in addition to the
scholarships I have received. I was determined to make everything I could
out of my time in college:
I studied abroad for a summer, completed a 6-month internship overseas,
volunteered, did freelance
IT work, made the Dean's List, got my A.A., and finally graduated Cum Laude with 2 B.A. degrees.
Now I'm highly-educated, well-traveled, unemployed, and BROKE.
How am I supposed to be a benefit
to society when I can't even negotiate my living expenses without incurring
finance charges?
Retirement? Savings? Health insurance? Are you kidding me?
My monthly food budget is less than $100. Even my malnutritious diet is maxing out my credit cards.
My credit rating can only take so much!
I feel that it is important to
clarify the fact that my credit card debts were not incurred
purchasing frivolous items like expensive purses or boozing it up with friends
on the
weekends. I paid LIVING EXPENSES with my cards. The electricity, gas
bill, groceries,
medical costs not covered by my university insurance--which ran out in December,
by
the way. I have taken 3 roommates into my 2-bedroom apartment to minimize
expenses.
Have you ever lived in a 2-bedroom
apartment with 4 people, 2 cats, and 1 bathroom?
If not, let me tell you something: IT IS HORRIFIC.
I would sincerely appreciate it if you could contribute something--ANYTHING--toward my financial
liberation.
You'll receive a personal thank-you email from me...Won't that brighten your
day?
I GIVE BACK, PEOPLE!
