CONIC SECTIONS
Made By: Whitney S. - Algebra II
| CONIC | DEGENERATE CASE |
| Ellipse or circle | Isolated Point |
| Hyperbola | 2 Intersecting lines |
| Parabola | 2 Parallel lines or 1 line |
REMEMBER:
ELLIPSE= Both numbers positive, different number in front, 2 squared terms.
CIRCLE= Same numbers squared, both positive.
HYPERBOLA= 1 negative number, 2 squared numbers.
PARABOLA= 1 squared number
EXAMPLE PROBLEMS:
*X2 + 2Y2 + 16Y + 32 = 0 (ELLIPSE)
* 9Y2 = 25X2 + 400X + 1825 (HYPERBOLA)
* X2 +Y 2= 10X + 2Y +23 (CIRCLE)
*(X+3)2 = 8(Y+2) (PARABOLA)
KINDNESS:
" If you treat others with the same
kindness and respect as you would like to
be treated with, you can never fail".......Whitney S.
