Word Problem:
Given AB with points A(6,3) and B(9,9), write and equation of the line containing the altitude from A.
1.
Graph the
points (6,3) and (9,9), and solve for Y.
*Use the two points given to find the slope of the line.
*Plot the points on a graph.
M=Y2-Y1
X2-X1
M= 9-3 or 6
9-6 3
2. Then use the point slope form to write the linear equation.
Y-Y1=m(X-X1)
Y-3=6 (X-6) *Plug in the points to complete the equation. You can choose coordinates from either point,
3 I chose points from the first coordinate.
Y-3=6X -18 +3 *Add thrree to both sides of the equation.
+3 3 3
Y=6X -18 +3 **Hidden under the three is a one.
3 3 1
Y=6X -18 + 9 *In order to add fraction they have to have a common denominator.
3 3 3
Y=6X - 27 * Since 27 is diivisible by 3, you can reduce the fraction.
3 3
Y=6X - 7
3
Y=3X-7
First
they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
--Mahatma Gandhi
To me this quote means that even if you get persecuted for your beliefs like Gandhi did, in the end you win because you will not have given into the temptation of fighting them.
I got this quote from, http://home.att.net/~quotations/celebrity.html.
