This section is multiplying and dividing rational expressions. After thoroughly looking over this page, you will successfully be able to work out, and solve these types of problems.
Multiplication: Division:
|
16a5d7 * 7c5b2 = 2a3c4d5 |
X2 + 5X +6 ÷ X2 +X - 6 = (x - 1) |
|
14cb4 12a2d2 3b2 |
(X + 2) (X - 1) (x -2) |
STEPS:
1. Evaluate the problem:
2. Break down the problem:
3. Combine the top row , then combine bottom row. Or if you need to factor, then factor.
| 16aaaaaddddddd 7cccccbb | (x + 3)(x + 2) (x - 1) |
| 14cbbbb 12aadd | (x + 2) (x + 3)(x - 2) |
* If the problem is a division problem then the second numerator and denominator must be flipped.
4. Then eliminate all like terms. For example since there are 5 a's on the top, and only 2 a's on the bottom then there will be 3 a's left over on the top!!
5. Now that you have eliminated like terms you are ready to reduce numbers that can be reduced. For example since there is a 16 over 14 then you can reduce it to 8 over 7. Do this until you can not reduce anymore.
6. After eliminating and reducing your are ready to put together your answer.
7. Put together all left over terms.

QUOTE: I believe that mathematical reality lies outside of us, that our function is to discover or observer it, and that the theorems which we prove, and which we describe grandiloquently as our "creations" are simply the notes of our observations. - London Cambridge.
