Adding and Subtracting Matrices
By: Greg P.
Adding or subtracting matrices is extremely easy. When adding or subtracting matrices remember to match up the corresponding numbers in the matrices being added. Observe as the problem below is solved.
A store sells 15 cookies on Monday, 12 cookies on Wednesday, and 36 cookies on Friday. Another store sells 38 cookies on Monday, 36 cookies on Wednesday, and 58 cookies on Friday. Using a matrices, determine how many cookies the stores sold in total.
[15] [38] [53] ----Monday
[12] + [36] = [48] ----Wednesday /b>
[36] [58] [94] ----Friday
As you can see, all that you must do is match the first column, which is the first store, and the second column, which is the second store. In doing so, you will create the third column, which is the total amount of cookies sold by both stores.
"Courage is the art of being the only one that knows you're scared to death."
-Harold Wilson
This quote means that even the really brave and courageous people can admit that they are afraid.
