It had been two months. She still had to remind herself it was real. That it wasn’t some figment of her imagination. That her name was still Sara, and that she had not changed lives. Or bodies.
Before this, she had always thought secrets, easy things to keep. Maybe because she had never experienced one of this magnitude. Of this vastness. It woke with her in the morning, and walked beside her all day long.
She had not yet decided whether it was comforting. Or just plain terrifying. But she knew it was beginning to affect her work, and his. They were taut and clumsy, in each other’s presence. Was it that they were not yet accustomed, to tearing themselves apart everyday- and trying to function separately? After spending their nights, without a whisper of air between them.
She had never felt so translucent. Sure that everyone could see through their frail disguise. She tried to take the affection out of her voice, when speaking to him- and he the awe in his eyes.
But it was mounting. So, that she found herself fighting to contain it. Just an hour longer, till they could be alone. Or a couple more minutes, until she could think of an excuse to go to his office. Would it always be like this? The electricity, in the uncertainty. The shortness of breath, in the enormity. The quickening of heartbeat, in the intensity .
Bathed in darkness, lying close to him and impossibly in love. She would hope. That they would be perpetually intertwined. That their passion and their lives, would never….shatter.
