Honey

Rating- PG

Summary- The sweetest way to say goodbye...

Lyrics by Joseph Arthur

We're made out of blood and rust/ Looking for someone to trust/ Without a fight/ I think that you came too soon/ You're the honey and the moon/ That lights up my night/

He carefully unlocked the door, and led her by the hand into the small room. Light radiated from the tiny bulb hanging on the ceiling. She glanced around, looking at the threadbare sheets and off white towels. Turning to face him, she removed her jacket and placed it on the nearest chair. He kicked off his shoes, and left his sunglasses on the desk top.

Their grins engulfed the room and her mouth ached with smiling. His hand reached out gently to touch the side of her face. In his mind they had already shed their clothes, and she lay beneath him. But here in reality, this would be achingly slow.

They tried to grasp at sensations. He closed his eyes and etched the lines of her face into the deepest parts of his memory. She took in the scent of his skin and the taste of his kisses. He seemed everywhere, inescapably close. But it was not yet enough. Removing his shirt, she listened hard. Wanting to remember the sound of his heartbeat, in sleepless nights to come.

He fought to believe she was really with him. That it was her hair wrapped around his fingers and her shoulder blade so vulnerably on display. His arms encircled her slight waist, as he lifted her onto the bed. Her sigh was the last thing he remembered hearing, before he was torn apart. Everything in him fell to ruin and was remade around the contours of her body. The beautiful hollows and fragile curves.

They were saying goodbye the only way lovers can, when words are not enough. He knew she would wake and this small motel room would feel vastly empty. He prayed for anything but her regret. His hope remained in the belief that he had left a piece of himself with her, the way she would forever be in him. Grissom sighed and whispered over her sleeping body, ‘You light everything up honey. You always did.’

From the depths of her dreaming, a fulfilled Sara Sidle smiled.
