| As always Wes Craven came up with an original twist to this movie in an attempt to make it different to the usual horror movie cliche. A Nightmare on Elm Street is a different kind of horror film than the late seventies early eighties norm in that the bad guy wasn't some guy stalking his victims on the street, here he attacked people in their dreams. Heather Langenkamp plays a regular teenager who suddenly becomes aware that this monster has started killing people, everyone thinks she's crazy when she tells them what is happening and she even begins to think that this is the case herself. She decides to do something about it and attempts to get Freddie out of her dreams and into reality so that she can deal with him, she is successful but and we are left with everything seemingly back to normal but then Freddie returns for one last surprise, which unfortunately meant that a number of terrible sequels were able to be made. Everyone knows about Freddie Krueger even if they have never seen the movies and so this is a good reason alone to see one of the most famous villians in horror and to see what the fuss is about. There is plenty of blood and gore and the story is an excellent diversion from the usual cliched horror which makes it an interesting watch if you are a fan of the genre, if you're not a fan then I wouldn't have thought that this movie would be of much interest to you. |
