Mo' Better Blues tells the story of Bleek Gilliam a jazz musician who fronts his own jazz quartet in an upmarket Brooklyn club. The movie deals with Bleek's divided loyalties, on one hand he is torn between two women, and on the other, his band is demanding pay rises and Shadow has decided that he is going to get his own band and leave Bleek and his "I run things around here buddy" attitude. He is also struggling with Giant his friend and manager who has got into financial and physical trouble because of his gambling problem.
If you're into jazz than I think you would obviously enjoy Mo' Better Blues much more than "normal" people. I however think that jazz completely sucks and is the worst music ever invented and so the music scenes just didn't work for me and I was bored by them a lot of the time. It is well acted and well shot etc. and the story is fairly interesting but by the time the first hour and twenty minutes had passed I was starting to get fairly bored by the film. However for Spike Lee to make such a film after the success of his previous movie Do the Right Thing was quite a departure, the film works and has many good points but the fact that I got bored towards the end unfortunately overshadowed it's finer points.
