The Hurricane Bush - 6 Score - 6 1999 140 mins dir. Norman Jewison stars - Denzel Washington - Rubin Carter |
Based on the two books: "The 16th Round" by Rubin "Hurricane" Carter and "Lazarus and The Hurricane" by Sam Chaiton and Terry Swinton and directed by the same bloke that directed In The Heat Of The Night and The Thomas Crown Affair The Hurricane makes for good viewing. Denzel Washington deservedly won a Golden Globe and 1999 Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of the boxer Rubin Carter who was wrongly jailed for a murder he didn't commit. The story follows his true story and the attempts of the Three Stooges who campaign for his eventual release after nearly two decades in prison to get him freed. It's a good film if you are prepared to stick with it through the whole two hours twenty others, like KJM for example would probably turn it off after about an hour and won't be arsed to watch the rest but it's definitely worth it. The 6.5 that I gave it is probably the lowest I could have and some may say it's worth upto an 8. I wouldn't though. |
