One of the hottest and most talented women in the WWF, Lita first gained national recognition
when she joined Extreme Championship Wrestling in the spring of 1999. Wrestling had sparked
her interest after watching performers such as Rey Mystero Jr. and ECW provided her with the
experience necessary to reach the next level. She was known as Angelica aka. Miss Congeniality,
and was the valet for Danny Doring, regularly accompanying him and his partner Roadkill to the
ring. In July of 1999 she appeared on her first pay-per-view, ECW Heatwave '99 and shortly
after she participated in Dory Funk's "Funkin' Dojo" wrestling training camp. It was there that
Amy combined her background in kickboxing and judo with pro wrestling to develop her own
unique style.

Towards the end of 1999 rumours persisted that the WWF were interested in recruiting her and
she signed with the WWF. She was named Lita and was paired up with Essa Rios, as it was felt
that they would form an interesting team because of their look and the fact that Lita spoke
Spanish and so she could communicate with Essa, whose English was limited. The pair worked a
couple of WWF dark matches and then on February 8, 2000, WWF Light Heavyweight champion
Gillberg issued a challenge on Sunday Night Heat which aired on February 13 which Essa Rios
accepted and subsequently defeated Gillberg for the title. While Essa Rios was already known to
be a quality aerial wrestler, fans were unfamiliar with Lita but she immediately got their attention
because of her top rope moonsault onto Rios' fallen opponent after every match along with her
stunning Hurricanrana during matches. She soon became more popular than Rios and it seemed
only a matter of time before she would step upto the next level.

After Essa Rios lost the title to Dean Malenko, and following a series of matches that saw Essa
lose due to mixed signals and botched interference attempts by Lita, tension developed between
the pair. Finally Rios attacked Lita after a defeat and she was saved by the Hardy Boyz, two
wrestlers that she had trained with and new very well. Lita then aligned with the Hardys. She
took on Stephanie McMahon for the WWF womens title only to be denied by outside interference.

Perhaps the most distinctive thing about Lita (besides her beauty and wrestling ability) is the large
tattoo on her right shoulder. The tattoo was something that she got whilst in Europe as a souvenir
from her trip. It is a unique feature that adds to the mystique of one of the most popular women
in the WWF.
