Literacy And Basic Skills

What is LBS:
LBS (Literacy and Basic Skills) provides Academic ugrading in reading, writing and mathematics to the Grade 10 level. It is for adults who wish to improve their literacy and math in order to complete their OSSD, enter training, obtain employment or enhance personal growth and independence. It is a non-credit program for English speaking adults, 19 and over. Classes are full-time, part-time, day or evening in over 30 locations throughout the city.

Literacy and Basic Skills is funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities

Goals of the LBS Program:  
• To help adults learn to read and write
• To help adults improve their academic skills for further their
   education
• To help adults improve their academic skills for entry to job
   training programs
• To measure success by the academic and personal growth of the
   individual
• To provide adults with a friendly supportive atmosphere in which
   to learn

Features of the LBS Program:
• Full-time and part-time classes are held Monday to Friday
• Combined full-time program of English and Math
• New learners may begin classes at any time throughout the year if
   space is available
• Books and materials are provided free of charge
• Limited transportation assistance for eligible clients
