General Science

Course Description:
The main goal of this course is to provide each student with the fundamentals of physics, chemistry, geology, meteorology and astronomy.  Scientific principles will be developed and explored.  Real-world examples and hands-on learning will be emphasized.  It is hoped that this knowledge will encourage further appreciation and curiosity about the natural world.

Please find the class assignments/work/notes as they pertain to this class.  Attendance in class is necessary, as the notes posted on this webpage will not necessarily be everything that is covered in class.

The earth science book has an internet companion site at
http://go.hrw.com You will need to register to use the site but it is a great way to get some extra information and practice.

In an effort to improve reading skills and also reinforce needed skills for the AIMS test, SSR (Sustained Silent Reading...or as some jokingly put it...Sit down, Shush up, and Read) will be provided on Wednesdays (unless otherwise noted) starting after Fall break. Each student must bring a book, magazine, etc., that is science related to read during this time. Studies show that most students only read about 7 minutes per day and I want to encourage students to raise that time, and learn the joy of reading. The material being read is the students choice as long as it is school appropriate.

If you happen to have any science fiction books, or non-fiction science books, that you would like to donate for a class library, it would be very appreciated.
