The majority of available Canadian information on the Ashbridges (of Ashbridge Bay) originates from Don E.A. MacKay and has been updated from time to time by Bruce with the help of other family members. More recent generations are on file but not published for privacy reasons. The Canadian Ashbridges originated in Pennsylvania beginning with George Ashbridge and Mary Malin. This information, originally provided by Don MacKay, has been updated with extensive information provided by Karen Mullian. The original Ashbridges were Quakers (Society of Friends) and Karen has provided information from their and other records. This USA family relationship information is also available upon request.

McCLURE (Pa 1788),

The McCLURES/McCLUERS descended from Sarah Ashbridge are shown until very recent generations. The original William McClure died in Pennsylvania (1791). Subsequently his wife, Mary emigrated to Canada with her son James and her mother Sarah Ashbridge. As far as we can determine William was NOT related to any other US McCLURES, however, there was a William McClure who had title to land adjacent to Mary Ashbridge's parents. That particular William McClure was married to Margaret Wright and they had a son Robert in 1763. This William also had a brother James who eventually took over William's property (1775) adjacent to the Ashbridges (around the time of the 'Great Runaway' (1788). If this William turned out to be actually the father of young James, then William would have had to have been around 45 -60 years of age in 1788 when young James was born. Unfortunately, we cannot locate records of either Mary's marriage or James' birth!

As a result of the Quaker connection there is the possibility that research in Antrim or Donegal would bear fruit. Please write if you have any suggestions.
