"Meeting Britney Spears" Sunday Times [West Australian Newspaper]: ChillOut! May 5, 2002 p. 02
In case you missed the media frenzy, Britney Spears arrived
in Sydney for a whirlwind tour to promote her movie Crossroads last
week. Thanks to Pepsi Live, one lucky ChillOut! Reader was on the
scene to meet and greet the diva.
Eight-year-old Britney Lee of Claremont was the WA winner of Pepsi
Live’s Pop the Question to Britney competition, which ran in the
April 7 edition of ChillOut!
Last week Britney and her mum flew to Sydney, where they
experienced a mind-blowing day in the life of a music journalist.
Stretched limos picked them up at their swank hotel and whisked
them to the national premiere of Crossroads.
But the excitement was not enough to overcome Britney Lee’s
nerves at the thought of asking her role model a question on Pepsi Live.
“I was really nervous about meeting Britney Spears but when I met
her she was really nice and friendly and pretty,” Britney said. “She
said it was funny that we had the same name.”
Britney said she was surprised and shocked to find out she had won.
“I cried with happiness when my mum told me I’d won the
competition,” she said.
Now the devoted Britney Spears fan, who owns all her albums, hopes
to follow in her idol’s footsteps.
“I’d love to take up singing and acting,” she said.
Britney Lee was one of five winners from across Australia who
popped questions to Britney Spears on Pepsi Live last Sunday [21st
April, 2002]. Each winner got to ask Britney one question on the show. See
the transcript below. Britney Lee asked the first question.
Q: What was the best thing about
making the movie Crossroads?
Britney: Hanging out with the girls.
Q: You’re a role model for so
many younger fans. Do you feel there’s a lot of pressure with the things
you wear and say?
Britney: Um… No, I just do what I wanna
do and hopefully people accept that.
Q: What makes you happy?
Britney: What makes me happy? Simple
things – going to the movies, hanging out with my friends, going to the
spa, going shopping, stuff like that.
Q: If you went on a big overseas
trip, who would you take and why?
Britney: Probably my three best friends
from back home. Courtney, Lila and Jamieson – I’ve known them all my
life. They’re part of me.
Q: What has been your greatest
personal challenge?
Britney: I think that would have to be
when I was a little bit younger – when I was going out at night and my
mum wanted me to be in at 10.30pm. So
right now, I’m 20 and that’s kind of cool that my parents let me do
what I want to.
