The town is situated on the banks of the Zlota Lipa (Golden lime tree) River and surrounded by hills from all its sides.

Town's short history:
First recorded evidence 1375 as part of the Kievan Rus, Kingdom of Galicia.
Polish kingdom - 14th century - 1772
Austria - 1772 - 1867 as part of crown province of Galicia.

1530 - Jews lived in Brzezany when Brzezany recieved a status of a city.
1570 - 4 jewish families as part of the total population of 260 people.

1718 - Building of  the Large synagoge
1764 - Jewish population of about 1000 people.
1789 - 2754 jewish families in Brzezany district (including 8 other small towns)
1812 - Jewish population of 252 families (1059 people)
1880 - Jewish population of 4712 people
1930 - Jewish population of about 3000 people

21.9.1942 - First aktion to Belzec in Yom Kippor
9.1942 - Eesteblishing the Gehto - total jewish population 12000 people frome Brzezany and the sorounding towns.
