When rookie Vancouver Canucks defenceman Bryan Allen sits down with his grandchildren one day, he won't have to embellish the story of his first NHL goal. He truly did score on a rink-length dash, wiring a shot to the top shelf short side against Calgary's Roman Turek.

"I guess you're right," said the 22-year-old from Kingston. "I think you always dream your first NHL goal would happen that way but you don't expect it to. It was neat to get it like that."

Allen's celebration was not the most spectacular in league history. In fact, he had nothing planned.

"I don't know exactly what went through my mind after I scored," he admitted Friday. "I don't think I knew what to do actually. I mean, I was surprised it went in. I just wanted to hit the net and hopefully there would be a rebound for someone else."
