ALLEN KEYED UP: Defenceman Bryan Allen, whose litany of injuries stalled his career after he nearly made the Canucks as an 18-year-old rookie three years ago, was still pinching himself before Wednesday's game.

Brought from Kansas City to see the playoffs up close, he found himself in the lineup Monday due to veteran Scott Lachance's knee injury. Allen played again Wednesday after making an impressive debut that saw him finish plus-one with three hits in 11:33 of ice time.

"I think the national anthem, hearing the fans, the anticipation of the game, that was the most exciting point,'' Allen said. "When they first told me [I would play] it was tough to fathom. You see the Avalanche lineup, and it's pretty amazing some of the players you're going to play against.''
