Home Made Bandages

Mom was told about when I was
real little how to make homemade dressings. This was told to her by a
pharmacist, to make these dressing to save money. Mom took whites bed
sheets, top sheet, and we would get them rummage sales, or the church,
and now I them donated from the local hospital. Moms takes them, washes
them, then she cuts them about medium size strips, not too wide or narrow.
Then she would foil on the table, take a strip of the white cut sheet,
then she buys Vaseline Petroleum Jelly, the cheapies you can get. Spread
the Jelly by layering the the gauze back and forth in a nice triangle
shape. Don't have spread layer of gauze, fold about 3 to 4 layers, then
spread the Jelly on the gauze to sterilize the gauze, do this with about
a 2 or 3 of layers of cut strips, then double wrap it in foil, then pressure
then in a pressure cooker, for 30 minutes, after it starts to steam and
gets warms up. Put the wrapped packages in a cooking dish, maybe about
four packages at a time depending on the size, and cover with a lid. Take
them out, and let them cool down before using them. Now you can cut the
sizes you needs for the sore, rather it's big or small. Also, these DO
NOT stick totally to the skin, that it would not hurt when taking them
off. That may help the children who stick more often to there bandages
/ dressing. But if they don't come off, soak them first. I always put
the "4x4" padding gauze on top of the dressing to absorb the drainage
, if the sores are real bad. This can be a way of saving money, if you
know of family, friends, churches, rummage sales, and word of mouth. People
will help, and also I use the white sheet, but I have had color ones before.
I have seen the need to gives my ideas out here now, I have yet due to
my illness. But after hearing the dressing / bandages are need, I felt
the need and it was time help out anyway I can. I hope this helps everybody
in need, and the ones who don't but it can save money in due time. Any
questions, please feel to ask, I want to help in any way I can.
