| The board approved contributing the remaining half of the cost of the flashing school crossing signs along 772 in Brownstown at the December 4 meeting. At the meeting, Dr. Seldomridge from the school district again appealed to the board to reverse it's prior decision not to contribute. He said that since the route does not qualify as a Hazardous Walking Route by the state that it would cost the school district extra to bus the students than to bus students not classified by the state as "walkers". He also stated how it would put the school district in an awkward position in dealing with other townships in the future if the board refused to contribute since it is so customary for the school and the township to split the cost.. The school district proposed the signs early in the fall for the students walking along Route 772. Prior to the December 4 meeting PennDot had approved the signs but the funding had not been resolved. The school district has volunteered to pay half. The board ok'd the signs but voted down sharing the cost in prior meetings. The total cost of the signs is $6060. |
