The West Earl Township Water Department operates and maintains the water plant located at Turtle Hill Road, the booster station located on Oregon Pike and more than twelve miles of water lines. The original water system, installed in 1957, was fed by a spring. Today, the township water is supplied by a well yielding 100,000 gallons of water per day and a connection with Lancaster City that supplies 70,000 gallons per day.

In addition to performing regular maintenance duties, the West Earl Water Department is continually upgrading the water system infrastructure. Last year, the water department installed new nitrate removal equipment at the water plant and replaced a fire hydrant at the corner of North Church Street and Redwood Circle. This year two fire hydrants and the well pump are scheduled to be replaced.

The water department would also like to remind residents that the first meter reading of the year will be conducted March 1^st through March 20^th, weather permitting. Any questions concerning the water system can be directed to Robert Buckwalter at 859-3201.

The township provides and maintains three recreational areas for use by the residents of West Earl: The West Earl Community Park located along Route 772 in Talmage, Stone Quarry Road Park on the north side of the Conestoga River at the intersection of Route 772 and Stone Quarry Road, and the Municipal Building Community Park located at 157 West Metzler Road.

Thanks to the generous donation by the West Earl Lions Club, the Township was able to install two walking/fitness trails, slightly over a mile in length, at the West Earl Community Park and the Stone Quarry Road Park. In addition to the trails, a portion of the Lions Club donation was used to purchase fitness equipment which will be installed this year in the West Earl Community Park.

The West Earl Sewer Authority, incorporated in 1984, originally served residents on East Main Street, and in the West Earl Heights and Westgate developments. Since that time, the Sewer Authority’s service area has expanded to include Brownstown Park, School Lane Farms, Hans Graf Village, and portions of State Street, Stone Quarry Road and West Metzler Road.

The Brownstown Sewage Treatment Plant, located on Locust Street, has a sewage capacity of 200,000 gallons per day. On a typical day, the treatment plant handles 70,000 to 100,000 gallons. In addition to the treatment plant, the Sewer Authority also operates a pumping station on North Church Street.

Due to recent development in the Township, the Sewer Authority has added new sewer lines in the areas of Oregon Pike, West Main Street, Hillside Drive and Industrial Road. Future Sewer Authority plans include assuming the ownership of the Newport Road Pumping Station and the expansion of the Brownstown Sewage Treatment Plant.

The Ladies Auxiliary quilts will be auctioned at the Annual Community Sale on March 22^nd at 4:30 PM. The Ladies Auxiliary will be making doughnuts, strawberry pies, etc. for this auction as well.

The Fire Company will be replacing their 1983 Ford Pierce engine with a new Pierce Dash custom engine. The delivery date is May 2001. May is also the same month that the annual fund drive will begin.

- West Earl Township Lions Dinners, 7:00pm, 1^st and 3^rd Thursday of each month.

The 2001 township budget was passed by the Board of Supervisors without a tax increase. The real estate tax will remain at one mill. Trash and water rates will also remain the same.
