Firebeard G.Sutton 2001
Here's a wild and wonderful Space Age Iris with lots of color. The photo doesn't show the fiery tangerine beards well so I'll attempt to get a better photo of it next year. My plant had impressive and long uniform horns and not the flounces advertised in the catalogue. I know now that weather plays a role in whether a flounce appears or not. I grow around 35 Space Age irises and few of them produce flounces and spoons in this zone when they're introduced as such. This is indeed a new and very trippy introduction to the SA category. George Sutton isn't getting the credit he deserves for the outstanding work he's done in this field, his iris introductions are outstanding !
