The Grove Dude
  1989 to 2002

Grover left us on Dec 7-2002 after struggling with his health for several months,  Things went down hill after he ate a mouse and couldn't digest it.  Poor guy stopped eating all together and went from 15 pounds to 8 before the vet discovered a large tumor in his intestine.  Grover however, really enjoyed the last year of his life, we bought a house on almost an acre of land which permitted him to finally wander happily through the woods learning how to hunt mice.  He was a very proud hunter and promptly gobbled the entire mouse....YUK !!!!!  He was my best friend and is sadly missed these days.  I  haven't gone out to replace his feline presence in the household yet because I feel it's going to take a bit of time for the right cat to come along.  I'll leave the original text below any for now until I can rewrite at a later date.  Chris  Jan 6-03

Grover has been with me for since 1989 when I moved out and  rented my first apartment in Montreal..  I took the metro to the local SPCA and chose the most hyper of the little kittens they had on display.  This cat has been my best friend over the years , we changed residence seven times over the last 10 years and have always been close.  Grover loves to sleep on my lap and will jump on anytime he gets a chance.

Grover has always been the mean old nasty macho male in the house , the picture above clearly demonstrates his leader of the pride attitude.  He was quite pleased to have a companion when we introduced Broue into our household one winter afternoon but it took him quite a while for him to stop bullying her around.  Broue was in heat at the time so this was a very frustrating time for poor Grover who couldn't do anything about it.

I don't know what exactly his history is but he's not a cat of great temper.  He loves most people but their lives could be in great danger if anybody  teases  him, just ask my Dad :-).  Few people can pet the old grumpy cat and you have to know exactly when he's had enough or else he'll rapidly turn his head and administer one of his painful warning bites.

He is a good cat and just wants to be left to do his own thing.  I guess caring for these cats was maybe a good indication that I'd be a good father to human children as well.  Perhaps it served as a primer in the commitment department.

Grover misses Broue now that she's passed on and is presently trying to deal with the new guy in the house Snowball.  I suppose I'd be offended as well if I was a cat and somebody replaced my female friend with a hyper hormone driven teenage male stray cat.  Time will tell if Snowball mellows after being recently neutered.  The two of them should eventually learn to tolerate each other.

It's funny that the old Grove Dude is sitting on my lap as I write these words ,
